Your Guide to Upgrading & Downgrading Subscription Payments

AccessAlly’s upgrade & downgrade subscription capability is an extremely powerful feature. However, please be aware that there are many nuances.

This is designed for advanced use cases and it should not be used in vast majority of situations.

When to Use It:

In general, if a user can only have one active membership subscription with you at a time (though you offer several), then it’s probably better to build the subscription replacement into the existing offer.

If, on the other hand, you allow users to hold multiple subscriptions, then you may not need to build upgrades and downgrades into your order forms.

Simple Upgrade

Simple upgrades work well when you choose to have different “tiers” of access within your membership site.

For example, a “Silver membership” (with access to only one course) subscriber might want to upgrade their membership to the “Gold” level (with access to more content).

In a simple upgrade, you don’t want the user to lose access to any content they currently have, but you do want them to pay for additional access.

Simple Downgrade

Simple downgrades also work well when you have different “tiers” of access within your membership site.

For example, a “Gold level” subscriber (with access to only three courses) might want to downgrade their membership to the “Silver level” (with access to only one course).

In a simple downgrade, the user would lose access to some content on your membership site.
